Adjourning Teams
The groups hardest for me to leave was the groups in which the team members were able to build a relationship. They were also high performing groups I believe that because of the relationships built and the communication the groups were able to perform highly. The group that was hardest for me to leave was 3 years ago; when I left my previous job to come to the one that I am currently working. It was a group of 6, and the group was very diverse each one in the team was from a different cultural background, but we felt like a family. I worked with that group for two years without any supervision, because right after I was hired the program director was terminated, and the agency was never able to replace the program director, but we still have to run the program. So we decided we will go to work together to make it happen, and we would meet and discuss our issues and figure out how to make things work. We listened to each other, and in some circumstances we disagreed and had to resolve a conflict between us, but we always came through any issues successfully. The agency had 3 teams doing the same work in three different counties., Happens that we were the highest performing group without even having the supervision and guidance of a program director. We were our own leaders, and we consulted each other for everything. It was very hard to leave this team because we were very and we enjoyed working with each other. The relationship built was very solid. Three years after none of us worked there anymore, but we still get together occasionally, and we wish we could get to work together again. Adjourning is important because is a sign that goals were accomplished and that there are now new challenges to overcome. When adjourning a team, I like to get together celebrate accomplishments and summarize the work done. In terms of adjourning the work, I have done with colleagues in my M.S degree I would like to meet them in person during the graduation and thank them for the support and experiences that they share with me during this time. Also, writing in our blogs a brief summary of all our accomplishments during our journey in the M.S. program.

It sounds like your team set the goal of success and made sure it happened-even without the help of a designated supervisor. Your team knew what was needed and through meetings and communicating with each other you made it work. I think it would be great for us all to get together when we finally complete our Master’s program.
ReplyDeleteMarta,
ReplyDeleteIt appears that your team was an awesome one. To outperform other groups that had leadership is a commendable accomplishment. You guys built a good working relationship and worked out any difference so that you were able to accomplish a common goal. When people work so closely together, it is hard to say goodbye. I am glad that you keep in touch. I would like to meet my colleagues at graduation also.
Marta,
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to say thank you for all of your support, guidance, and understanding during this course. You helped me understand communication better by being a great role model and also by displaying it through assignments. I wish you the best in your professional and personal future.
