The International website that I selected is Save The Children.
Save the Children is an organization that works in more that 120 countries to protect, save and improve the life of children. Also, they have an emergency response program that is prepared to protect vulnerable children during and after disasters. One of the issues I found in their website is health and nutrition. This entity works to provide access to health and nutritional services to children and their families. They develop strategies and programs to make sure that they are reaching as many people as possible.
It has been proved that children benefit of quality health services and well- child check ups. Unfortunately, not all children in the world have access to quality health services. Even in the United States there is a great percentage of children and families who are not receiving their schedule check ups and services, due lack of insurance coverage.
Marta,
ReplyDeleteSave the Children is an amazing organization. Years ago, I was involved with Feed the Children (http://www.feedthechildren.org/site/PageServer?pagename=dotorg_homepage). I really enjoyed sending donations because I thought my contributions made me feel as though my small amount counted. Like Save the Children, Feed the Children provides its services internationally also. I like their motto which says, “Feed the Children is what we are and what we do.” I think it is important for organizations to see the big picture and not just be comfortable helping children locally only. Humanity as a whole should be as strongest as its weakest person. I think it is awful that some people only think of themselves and as educators we need to influence positive change. Personally, I try to teach my children that they should be thankful for what they have but also be willing to share. I let them donate but I stress that it is important to share the good things too—not the things that they don’t want. Sorry, I just went off on the deep end because I feel so strongly about the issue. On the initial note, it is important to reach as many people as possible with services of that nature.
That is correct; all children do not have access to quality care. As educators, it is important for us to become knowledgeable of services so that we can direct our families to a place or an organization in which they can benefit. Good blog and great organization to follow.
Marta-
DeleteWhat a wonderful experience, and this motivates me to make small donations as well. A little can go a long way. Thank you for sharing-

Hello, Marta!
ReplyDeleteOne of the schools I worked at had funds provided by Save the Children. The library was stocked and an after-school program was funded through this organization. At one time there was a Pre-School that was funded through them as well. Efforts of the organization benefited children in my county. Good post!

Hi Marta-
ReplyDeleteI am also following this organization, and I also agree that there is great percentage of children and families who are not receiving their schedule check ups and services, due lack of insurance coverage. I count my blessings each day that I do not need to worry about going to the doctor/dentist in fear that I do not have enough money to cover my medical bills, and especially for my children as well. I have never been personally involved like Kristi or Yolonda, but it sounds very rewarding. Thank you for your post-
